KISIG PINOY

After the success of the video game-inspired Kick Fighter Komiks, its publisher Infinity Publishing, Inc. attempted to capitalize on another popular trend of the time: professional wrestling. The result was Wrestle Warriors Komiks, which had a very brief run in 1993. One of its featured characters was Kisig Pinoy ("Dashing Pinoy?"), who was based on wrestling superstar "Macho Man" Randy Savage.

Created by writer Geraldo Jumawan and artist Louie A. Salvio, Pikoy was a frail, mentally-challenged young lad. He then encounters a mysterious old hermit who magically transforms him into the super-strong champion of justice, Kisig Pinoy.

PUSANG ITIM

Created by writer Mike Tan and artist Ariel Padilla (uncredited, but the style is obvious), Pusang Itim ("Black Cat") was a humanoid cat creature who struggled amidst a world that feared and hated him.

From Kilabot Komiks #425 (April 25, 1994), published by Graphic Arts Service Inc., here's the series' 13th chapter, wherein the Black Cat gets himself into a bit of bad luck.

And a happy Friday the 13th to everyone!

SUPERGEE RETURNS... OR NOT.

Supergee almost appeared on television in a 2006 episode of the ABS-CBN series Komiks. Starring actress Judy Ann Santos in the title role, the episode had actually been filmed, but was never aired.

In 2009, US-based Filipino artist Dell Barras posted designs he had made for a proposed Supergee revival. You can view the rest of his designs on his blog Sketchpad.
